We are the proud parents of three teens, one young adult, and one 10-year-old. When our kids were young, we were terrified of having teenagers because everybody told us how hard it was to deal with moody, irrational, disrespectful teens. Now that we are in the thick of that stage, it is turning out to be our favorite parenting season yet. It is not without its difficulties, but we think teens are awesome!
In this episode, we discuss both the joys and the challenges of parenting during this stage of life. We think you will find our perspective hopeful and uplifting. If you have teenagers or will at any point in the future, this one is for you.
Actionable takeaways:
- Make a list of your teens’ strengths and talents. Maybe you will notice that some of the things that drive you crazy are actually strengths that just need a little refining.
- Make a plan for helping your teenagers to recognize their strengths and put them to good use.
- Find a friend or mentor whom you can talk to when things get tough. Sometimes, it is helpful to know that you are not alone in this teenage wilderness.
- Enjoy your teens! They will soon be out on their own, and you will miss having their spunk in your home.
