Sleep troubles are common in infancy and early childhood, often leaving both parents and children exhausted. Anybody who has ever dealt with sleep-challenged children knows the implications of chronic sleep deprivation. It affects every aspect of life and often results in near-constant overwhelm.
When my kids were young, I believed sleep deprivation was just something I had to endure until my kids were older. But what if there was another way? What if it were possible to solve sleep challenges in infancy and teach babies and young children to be good sleepers for life?
Lucky for us, there is a way to do that, and Certified Infant and Sleep Consultant, Eva Klein, is here to teach us how to get started.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:
- How to maximize sleep in the newborn phase by incorporating Dr. Harvey Karp’s 5 S’s: swaddling, lying baby on his side, shushing, swaying, sucking.
- Why encouraging a newborn to fall asleep on his own will help establish healthy sleep patterns throughout infancy and childhood, and how to make that a reality.
- Why allowing a baby or toddler to get overtired hijacks healthy sleep, and what to do instead.
- How much sleep babies and young children actually need
- Some reasons why babies and young children wake up in the middle of the night, and how to minimize their need for Mom or Dad to help them go back to sleep once they are awake.
- Why bedtime schedules and routines are essential, and how to establish one in your home.
- How to encourage toddlers and young children to fall asleep on their own if they are used to being rocked to sleep, falling asleep with Mom or Dad by their side, or various other routines.
