“By small and simple things are great things brought to pass.” (Alma 37:6)
If I told you that small and simple things make a huge difference, would you believe me?
Sometimes it feels like the seemingly insignificant things that happen in the midst of our daily lives often go unnoticed and unappreciated because, well, they are just so darn ordinary. And ordinary is boring, right?
But what if it isn’t? What if ordinary is nothing short of magnificent? Ordinary is, after all, where most of life takes place.
What would happen if we started paying attention to the small and simple things that make up a majority of our days, and by extension, our lives? Would it change our perspective? Would it help us to see our blessings more clearly? Would we start to see more beauty in the quiet moments that pass so quickly and almost imperceptibly? Could it change our lives?
How much joy are we missing by failing to notice and acknowledge the power of small things and simple moments?
This topic is one that has been tugging at my heart lately, and I want to explore it in greater detail. I want to spend more time noticing. Paying attention. Living outside of my phone, my computer, my inbox, and the other things that tend to keep me wrapped up in my own little world.
As Marion Roach Smith said in her book, The Memoir Project:
It’s in the small moments that life is truly lived.
Do you want to join me in doing something significant this month? Let us take back our small, ordinary moments, and allow them to teach us how to live life with more purpose and joy.
